PARAPOLITIKA: Journal of Politics and Democracy Studies is a scholarly journal published by the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ). The journal was established in 2020 as an academic forum for disseminating scholarly research and critical discussions in the field of political science and democracy studies.
Since its establishment, PARAPOLITIKA has been developed as a peer-reviewed academic journal that provides a platform for researchers, academics, practitioners, and scholars to discuss contemporary political phenomena and contribute to the development of political science. The journal initially focused on governance and democracy, political institutions, and the dynamics of elections, parties, and representation. We invite scholarly inquiries into political theory, civil society, and social movements, as well as the evolving landscape of citizenship and public management. and has subsequently expanded its scope in response to developments in political studies, democratic practices, governance, political institutions, citizenship, political participation, political communication, elections, and digital politics.
The development of PARAPOLITIKA has been accompanied by continuous improvements in its editorial and publication management. These improvements include the strengthening of the peer-review process, editorial governance, publication ethics, article quality standards, digital journal management, metadata management, and online publication practices. The journal has adopted an electronic journal management system through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform to support transparent, efficient, and accessible scholarly communication.
Over the course of its publication history, PARAPOLITIKA has also continued to strengthen the quality and diversity of its editorial board, reviewers, and contributors. The journal welcomes scholarly contributions from researchers and academics from Indonesia and other countries, while encouraging research that places Indonesian and Southeast Asian political experiences within broader comparative and international debates.
As part of its ongoing development, PARAPOLITIKA has progressively strengthened its commitment to academic integrity, rigorous peer review, research ethics, transparency, and international scholarly engagement. The journal seeks to publish original research that makes substantive theoretical, empirical, methodological, or conceptual contributions to the study of politics and democracy.
The journal's current editorial direction emphasizes contemporary developments in political science, particularly political institutions, democracy, governance, political participation, citizenship, political communication, electoral politics, political parties, and digital political transformation. At the same time, PARAPOLITIKA remains open to emerging areas of political research that contribute to broader debates in political science.
Today, PARAPOLITIKA continues to develop as a scholarly publication committed to advancing research on politics and democracy and to strengthening its visibility, accessibility, and engagement within the national, regional, and international academic community.
The journal's development is guided by the principle that a scholarly journal should not only serve as a channel for publication but also contribute to the advancement of knowledge, encourage meaningful academic debate, and connect research on Indonesian and Southeast Asian politics with wider international scholarship.
