Parapolitika: Journal of Politics and Democracy Studies

About the Journal

Parapolitika: Journal of Politics and Democracy Studies is an official peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Jakarta. The journal aims to publish high-quality research outcomes, field research, literary research, and popular scientific papers discussing political phenomena, contemporary governance, socio-political thought, democracy studies, and humanities.

General Requirements & Formatting

• Language & Scope: Manuscripts must be written in proper English or Bahasa Indonesia in essay format. The subject matter must cover social sciences, politics, contemporary governance, democracy studies, or humanities.
• Length: 5,000–8,500 words (or approximately 8–15 pages), including tables, figures, and abstract, but excluding references.
• Format: Microsoft Word document (.doc / .docx), A4 paper size, formatted in Palatino Linotype, font size 11 pt, with 1.5 line spacing (or single spacing according to the official manuscript template).
• Submission Portal: All manuscripts must be submitted online via the journal's portal at https://ejournal.upnvj.ac.id/pp by registering an author account.

Structure of the Manuscript

1. Title
   • Capitalized, centered, clear, concise, and informative.
   • Maximum 14 words. Avoid unnecessary abbreviations. Subtitles should be aligned left without numbering.
2. Author Information
   • Author name(s) written without academic degrees or titlesdirectly under the title.
   • Institutional affiliation, mailing address, and valid institutional email address.
   • If authored by a team, all co-authors must be listed. The Editorial Board will communicate primarily with the corresponding/first author.
3. Abstract & Keywords
   • Abstract: Written in a single paragraph consisting of 200–300 words(or 200–250 words minimum). Must explicitly state the research objectives/aims, methods, empirical results/findings, and main conclusion.
   • Keywords: 3–5 keywordsseparated by semicolons, reflecting core concepts.
4. Introduction
   • Sequentially states the general background, research context, problem statement, current scientific situation (state-of-the-art), and theoretical framework (literature review).
   • Must explicitly state the research questions, hypotheses, and study objectives at the end of the section.
5. Literature Review
   • This section presents a critical review of relevant previous literature and theoretical or conceptual frameworks governing the study. Authors should clearly map out the state of the art to highlight the novelty and academic contribution of the manuscript in relation to existing research.
6. Research Methodology
   • Outlines the scientific techniques, research design, data collection procedures, and analytical methods utilized.
   • Must contain sufficient detail to enable readers to replicate the research and evaluate the reliability and validity of the findings. Published methodologies should be cited appropriately.
7. Results and Discussion
   • Results: Present empirical findings in a straightforward and succinct manner, supported by relevant data, tables, or figures.
   • Discussion: Interpret findings in relation to core research questions, theoretical frameworks, and earlier studies. Highlight how results differ from or bolster previous research, emphasizing the overall significance of the work.
8. Conclusion
   • Presented as a concluding paragraph providing a convincing scientific explanation of how the work advances existing knowledge and directly answers the research objectives.
   • Avoid simply restating experimental findings or repeating the abstract. Highlight theoretical/practical implications, limitations, future research directions, or policy recommendations.
9. Acknowledgments / Credits(Optional)
   • Acknowledge research grants, financial support, or institutional assistance prior to the reference list.
10. References & Citations
    • Reference Management: Authors must use reference management software such as Mendeleyor Zotero.
    • Citation Style: Strict adherence to American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition.
    • In-Text Citation: Written in brackets, e.g., (Michael, 2000)or with page numbers for direct quotes, e.g., (Michael, 2000, p. 48).
    • Requirements: At least 20 referencesmust be included. At least 75%–80% must consist of primary sources (scientific journal articles or research reports) published within the last 5 to 10 years (recent 5 years preferred).
    • Ordering: All entries must be arranged alphabetically (A to Z). Full URLs or DOIs must be provided where available.

Tables, Figures, and Editorial Policies

• Tables and Figures: Must have clear titles, sequential numbering, and explicit source acknowledgments, formatted with single line spacing.
• Citation Accuracy: Ensure every quoted work in the text appears in the Reference section and vice versa. Uncited entries in the reference list will be removed.
• Peer Review & Editorial Authority: Manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process conducted by expert reviewers. The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit typography, grammar, and layout prior to publication.
• Copyright & Ethics: Authors are fully responsible for obtaining permissions for copyrighted materials (software, figures, data) used in their work. All legal consequences regarding copyright infringement or plagiarism remain the sole responsibility of the author(s).

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items. Submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines may be returned to the authors:

• Originality: The submission has not been previously published, nor is it currently under consideration by another journal (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
• File Format: The submission file is in Microsoft Word (.doc / .docx) document file format.
• URLs / DOIs: Where available, full URLs or DOIs for references have been provided.
• Template & Length: The manuscript follows the official template provided by Parapolitika: Journal of Politics and Democracy Studies 
• Bibliographic Compliance: The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines (APA 7th Edition style using Mendeley/Zotero, at least 20 references with 75%–80% primary sources from the last 5–10 years).
• Double-Blind Review: Instructions for Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed (author names and affiliations removed from the main manuscript file during initial submission).

Plagiarism

Authors should submit only original work that is not plagiarized and not has been published or being considered elsewhere. Turnitin will be used by the editorial team to check for similarities between the submitted manuscript with existing literature. PARAPOLITIKA: Journal of Politics and Democracy Studies will immediately reject papers leading to plagiarism or self-plagiarism.

Before submitting articles to reviewers, the manuscripts are first checked for similarity and plagiarism using Turnitin by a member of the editorial team. The papers submitted to PARAPOLITIKA: Journal of Politics and Democracy Studies must have a similarity level of less than 25%.

Artificial Intelligence Disclosure
